WHAT ELSE CAN BE BUILT FROM QUARKS AND GLUONS

 ABSTRACT

The nucleus of every atom contains protons and neutrons which are built of quarks and gluons.  Physicists have identified dozens of other particles, collectively named hadrons, that are also composed of quarks and gluons. Experiments are underway to search for even more hadrons, such as those called "hybrid mesons".  The masses and interactions of these new particles, if they can exist in nature at all, remain unknown.
