John's marriage to Sarah Martin may have been 9/29/1736 rather than the 25th day.
John owned property in the Merryall, CT, area, located on the West Aspentuck River which was later sold by his heirs to his brother Elihu in 1765. It has been stated that portions of this property were previously owned by Elnathan Brigham, Matthias Marsh, William Marsh & son, Cyrus Marsh, John Marsh, & finally to Elihu Marsh & his descendants. John & family moved to Duchess County, NY, possible with his Uncle Matthias Marsh & family Abt. 1750, dying shortly thereafter, possibly at Dover. John's uncle, Matthias Marsh and family, lived north of Dover at Amenia at the time of his nephew, John's death. John did have children who married at New Milford, CT, and Shaftsbury, VT.
One source says that John & Sarah also had sons named Daniel & William. I believe this to be error and believe that the two were sons of John's brother, Rev. Wm. Marsh, who was killed in PA in the Wyoming Valley by Indians. Also, John's widow, Sarah, did not mention either Daniel or William in her will.
There was a William Marsh b. 3/13/1753 who m. Elizabeth Benson and had 10 children. She was b. at Dover, NY, and they lived at Hoosic, NY, Abt. 1780-1788. It is not known whether this Wm. was related in any way. It was said that he fought on the American side in the Revolution in Capt. Matthias Button's Co., 14th Albany County Regt. of Foot, Commander Col. John Abbott. Other Marshes in this company were Ephraim, Jr. John, & David. Since he fought on the Am. side, I doubt that he was related.
