An historical account says that Abigail's family was living in Shaftsbury, Vermont in 1766, so Abigail may have born there. Abigail grew up in Shaftsbury, VT, and moved with her family to Leicester Junction, Addison County, VT, when she was about 20. However, I saw a record that says her father was in Shaftsbury by 1766 and may have been born there. She married Amos Marsh when she was about 26 yrs. of age.
Abigail's uncle, Caleb Olin, and some of his children moved from Vermont Abt. 1812 & lived in Canton, NY. He died at Potsdam, St. Lawrence Co., NY. Some of these Olins are undoubtedly buried at the Old Olin Cemetery near Canton, NY.
Abigail died when she was 57, sister Mary was 27, and sister Sally was 43. So these three sisters died rather young. Abigail had two siblings, Christopher Olin & Freelove Edmunds, who settled in Hartland, NY with their families about 1815. Both died there in the early 1840's. Also, three of Abigail Olin Marsh's daughters and families lived at Hartland during the 1850 & 1860 census: Hannah Shead, Abigail Stewart & Laura Cleveland. It is believed that the Stewarts moved to Hartland in the late 1830's since that is where a some of the children were born. Also, Christopher's daughter, Abigail Olin Edmunds & husband George & family, lived in Hartland while the Marsh sisters made their home there. Abigail Edmunds was a first cousin to the Marsh sisters.
Abigail had various relatives who were influential & became well-known: Dr. Stephen Olin, one of America's leading Methodist leaders, was her nephew and Rev. Moses Emory Wright of Mass. was her great nephew. Also, her nephew, James Edmunds IV, a Baptist from NY, had an extraordinary interest in the cause of Biblical instruction and ministerial instruction. In 1840 he became one of the founders of the American Bible Union and literally worked himself to death. Abigail's second cousin, Abram B. Olin, was a U.S. Supreme Court Justice under Abe Lincoln. Abigail's brother (Henry Olin) and father's first cousin (Gideon Olin) were highly respected judges and politicians in Vermont. Also, Abigail's first cousin's son, George Randoph Dyer, was a strong community leader, dynamic member of the Republican Party, and intimate friend of Abe Lincoln's. He was appointed by Lincoln in some capacity for the duration of the Civil War.
Much information on the Olins is contained in the book, THE GENEALOGICAL RECORD OF JAMES EDMUNDS AND OF HIS WIFE CORDELIA SPEAR written by James Edmunds V born in 1837. The book was published in Louisville, KY in 18?? Abigail & family are found in Part B or chapter II of the book which states that she and Amos had nine children. Connie Lovitt Bates placed the above book online. Her email address is clb mail lists@worldnet.att.net. Another book written on the Olins came out in 1893 written by C.C. Olin (probably Chauncy C. Olin, Jr.) and was called THE OLIN ALBUM - 1893 which is also online.
