Before the Revolution, Abraham was living in Shaftsbury, VT, where his sister Mary Marsh Cole also lived. Abram was called the "ablest Yorker" and had his land confiscated in Shaftsbury because he was a Tory.
Abraham was a Loyalist who was on the muster roll in 1790 for Cornwall & Osnabruck who was a captain under his father-in-law, Jeremiah French, Jr. After the American Revolution, both Jeremiah French and Abraham Marsh were given land grants and were said to be very early settlers of Maple Grove, a small hamlet in the area of Cornwall. Jeremiah was said to have come to the area in 1784. He began very humbly but expanded and owned and operated a huge flour mill and saw mills in Maple Grove. It is not known whether Abraham worked with his father-in-law in these mills.
Abraham and his father's first cousin, Col. William, married Frenches who probably were aunt & niece.
Abraham sold 200 acres located in Roxborough, Stormont County, Ont. to his cousin's son, Gurley Marsh, of Clarendon. Gurley owned this at the time of his death in 1824. Gurley's brother, Daniel, went to settle the estate in 1833. This is also the year Abe, Sr. died.
A book written on Loyalists states that Abe's Dau. Mary Ann m. Wm. G. Barnhart, not Catherine. I doubt this, however.
