one of the partners in the shipping firm Bryant & Sturgis which carried more than half of the American trade with the Pacific Coast and China. One of their vessels, 'Cleopatra's Barge' was sold in about 1820 to the Hawaiian King Liholiho for sandalwood. He made her into the royal yacht.
