It is presumed that entering graduate students have completed the following courses at the upper division undergraduate level: one semester of mechanics, two semesters of electricity and magnetism, and one semester each of thermal physics, modern physics and quantum mechanics. Students without this background will have to remedy any deficiencies before embarking on the graduate curriculum.
