" Strings Everywhere? ''

String Theory remains a very promising framework within which to address many questions about the nature of our universe. However, a great deal needs to be understood about the theory before we know whether it will answer many fundamental questions. Some of these issues will be reviewed. In recent times, many advances in our understanding have led to applications of string theory as a computational tool in tackling various issues in physics that includes current experimental work in nuclear physics and condensed matter physics. I will discuss some of these rather exciting examples, which serve as a testbed for various ideas in string theory, and perhaps a guiding light for how to develop it further.

Refreshments will be served in CP 179 at 3:15 PM
