"X-ray Spectroscopy of
Local AGN: What is Really Coming from the Inner Disk?''
New XMM-Newton and Chandra X-ray observations have revealed the presence
of gas zones of much higher ionization-state and column density than
previously known, existing very close to the central black hole.
Consideration of this gas shows it must make a substantial contribution to
the observed X-ray spectral shape and variability; once this is accounted
for our view of the contribution from the inner accretion disk must be
modified significantly. I give a personal perspective on the shifting AGN
paradigm.
Refreshments will be served in CP 179 at 3:15 PM
