Q1: The wind certainly makes you feel cold. Yet a fan blowing on a thermometer does not change the reading! (If this comes as a surprise to you, please do this experiment sometime). Even though both thermometers and people have red noses, they differ in the effect that the wind has. Discuss the other respects in which you differ from a thermometer that that might explain this.

Q2: After the freezer door has been closed for several hours, which of these items in the freezer is the coldest?

The ice cubes
The metal rack
The air in the freezer
They are all the same temperature.

Q3: A shiny metal pan, a wooden spoon, and a black clay pot are left in a 300 F oven for 3 hours. Which one is now the hottest?

The pan
The spoon
The pot
They are all at the same temperature
