1. Andy carried a 100 Newton box of books three kilometers. Bertram carried a 200 Newton box of potatoes two kilometers. Bertram claims he should be paid more more because he worked harder: in fact, he claims that he can prove by physics that he transferred more energy to the potatoes than Andy transferred to the books. Which statement is correct:
No energy was transferred.
Andy transferred more energy than Bertram
Bertram transferred more energy than Andy
They transferred the same amount of energy (not zero)

Harold pulling the suitcase up the ramp 2. Harold is pulling a 270 N (60 pound) suitcase onto a 1 meter (3 ft 3") high porch using a 3 meter (9 ft 10") board as an incline. The suitcase has wheels, so that no force at all would be needed on a level surface. The force he needs to exert is
65 N (15 pounds)
90 N (20 pounds)
135 N (30 pounds)
270 N (60 pounds)

Alice and Billy on the see-saw 3. Discussion question: Alice is playing on the see-saw with her little brother Billy. For perfect balance, she sits 1 meter from the central support, and Billy sits 1.5 meters from it; when she goes up and down 1 meter, Billy goes up and down 1.5 meters. Discuss the operation of the see-saw from the point of view of the energy needed to lift and lower each person.
