The Department of Physics
and Astronomy offers a comprehensive range of courses in all major areas
of Physics and Astronomy, from the introductory level on up. Brief
descriptions of individual courses are available here;
more detailed information on some of our current courses can be obtained
from the course
web pages.
We
offer both BA and BS degrees; the requirements for each are summarized
here. Please note that these requirements
are changing for students beginning their physics studies in Fall 2003.
To help you explore the physics
curriculum and design a plan of study that suits your individual needs,
you will find here descriptions of all Physics
courses, links to websites of current
courses, requirements for Physics
Majors and Minors, and suggested 4-year curricula
for the B.A. and B.S. degrees in Physics.
Physics is a truly versatile
field, which combines well with almost any other quantitative field.
Students who want to combine physics with interests in other fields
may follow one of the specialty tracks,
emphasizing medical physics, electromagnetic engineering, materials
science, or business management. For students with an interest in astronomy
or astrophysics, we offer an Astronomy Concentration.
Many students double-major in physics and another subject, such as math,
computer science, or mechanical or electrical engineering. Special
curricula have been designed for double majors - consult with your advisor
for more information.
A Physics Advisor will be
happy to discuss the many options available to you, and to design a
curriculum that suits your individual needs.
