Prospective Physics MajorsUK's Department of Physics and Astronomy offers Physics Majors all the resources of an internationally recognized Faculty combined with the advantages of a small, select program. Because of our low student-faculty ratio, Physics Majors receive an unparalleled degree of personal attention from faculty, in small upper division classes covering all major branches of Physics and Astronomy, and through numerous research opportunities. In the liberal arts tradition, the UK Physics curriculum is flexible enough to accommodate a wide range of career and educational interests, including preparation for medical school, engineering graduate school, work in computer science or information technology, and further study of physics or astronomy. UK Physics Majors develop the problem-solving and analytic skills that many employers value, allowing many of our graduates to enter the workforce directly, while some of our graduates continue their studies with graduate work in physics or related areas. An active chapter of the Society of Physics Students (SPS) is open to all Physics Majors. The SPS Room is a place where Majors gather to discuss physics problems, share pizza, and plan rock-climbing trips. Follow the links at the left for more detailed information about any of these topics, scholarships available to physics majors, and suggested curricula.
