Tensen Productions Presents...

You will momentarily be forwarded to my new homepage!

The Abode-Page of
Joe Christensen, PhD

(That's ...t..e..n..s..e..n...)

Warning: I had some trouble with some of my web-pages at UK. They used to have the extension .shtml, but that seems to not be working, so everything has changed to .html; the .shtml extension programs are all still available.

Welcome to my home page. This page was last updated: 5 Dec, 1997. Clicking on the "new" icon to the right will forward you to my Recent Updates Page; there you can find what has changed on the various pages in my directories, which are likely to have changed more recently than this page.

Apprentice no more! Having just received my PhD in physics from the University of Kentucky. I will soon be teaching physics, as may be deduced from the variety of physics links in my bookmark file. I have a few side interests (mentioned below) which tend to slow the progress of my work; but in my spare time I will be a visiting assistant professor in the Physics Department at Centre College in lovely Danville, Kentucky.

As I have moved, I am in the process of moving these web pages to http://personal.centre.edu/~tensen. Please update your bookmarks accordingly.

My dissertation (postscript version is available, pdf version yet to be) is/was in the field of lattice field theory and of course, I enjoy discussing a variety of physics topics. I have thought about putting up a page which explains some physics topics, but I it soon blew up into a major undertaking which will have to wait for a few years. The main problem is that I am a fan of hyponyms, (meet Eva) so I wind into ponderful (not a typo) tangents of word choice. In the mean time, my CV (Curriculum Vitae) and my publications are available. I was also successful at creating a convenient format for viewing the pre-print archive.

Following Calvin's First Rule of Web Page Design, I am making an effort to keep those slow graphics off of the first page so that there is something to read while the graphics load farther down the page.

Occasionally, I have integrals to solve numerically. These give me a bit of time here and there to relax while the computer works for me. Permitting me to edit my homepages. So, below is what I have to offer, and this is what's new on my pages.

Interest cycle: physics, cycling, baking, our relation to other primates and morality. While this order may vary, I tend to cycle through these primary topics and their related subtopics. Discussions, etc. are welcome via tensen@centre.edu In addition, I have a diversions page with links to miscellaneous ...uh, well... diversions.

Physics: Few things come more naturally to me than explaining and babbling explanations. My goal in physics is to understand the physicists perspective and explain it to whomever will listen. My research is grasping at lattice gauge theory. For the brave minded and curious, I hope to write a page explaining what this is for whomever to read. Perhaps a hypertext. It's a crazy notion, but it is what I am about. Please continue to my explanations page, which is currently under construction.

Cycling: I have a hopeful, if not realistic, cycling goal of a one day ride to Cinncinatti, where I can visit my good friend, Thomas. While he has no homepage, he does make delightful wine. I am trying to create a loaf of bread for every wine he creates.

Baking: While my pretzel attempt blackened my aluminum cookie sheet, I must say that my bagels turned out very well. Although they take quite a bit of work, they are scrumptious. I have a new favorite sandwich bread, an old favorite dinner roll, and a not very old favorite miscellaneous munching bread. I enjoy baking, especially for picnicing at Lexington's late July Shakespeare in the Park, at the Arboretum.

Primates: This is a rather background interest. At this point it is fairly inactive. I had been looking for a NOVA video that was about gorillas and sign language. I found it at the video shop, and I also received an e-mail reference which gave me the address of some people in the field of primate communication. They sent me a recent paper about their work with chimpanzees and bonobos using a computer to communicate. Thanks to those of you who offered suggestions.

Miscellaneous: This is a cool Web-Periodic Table: Start WebElements
