Beamline Vacuum System Design
These are the designs for the vacuum system throughout our polarimeter. Keep checking back because these designs will probably change.

- Complete Beamline Drawing -- This is the most up to date drawing we have of our beamline vacuum system.
- The Beamline before Q1 -- This section of the vacuum system begins just after the Helmholtz coils. It expands the pipe from the 1.37" pipe to the 4" pipe.
- Beamline between Q1 and Q2 -- This section of the vacuum system lies between Q1 and Q2, and includes a bellows to help with flexibility and alignment.
- Beamline between Q2 and Q3 -- This section of the beamline is also removable.
- Beamline between Q3 and Vacuum Box -- This section of the beamline also contains a 4" bellows to assist with flexibility and construction. It connects to the newly designed vacuum box by a 6.75" non-rotatable, tapped flange.
- Beamline after the dipole -- This section of the beamline contains a 2.5" ID bellows, as well as a reducer flange from 4.625" OD to 8" OD.
During December/January, we assembled our original dipole vacuum system design,
and finally got it to hold vacuum on 1/14/97! It held down to about 2.0 x 10-4.
Yeah!! We ended up having to change the O-rings
from 3.5mm diameter to 4.5mm. We were also a lot more careful on trying to get
the maximum compression possible. It worked!
Shortly after we succeeded with that design, we decided to go with a vacuum
box design. This has now been constructed, and was inserted into the
dipole during the week of 4/21-4/25 at TJNAF. It has been vacuum tested and
seems to hold vacuum sufficiently.
