Physics Scholarships and AwardsThe Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Kentucky offers a number of scholarships and awards to undergraduate students majoring in physics. Our regular scholarships are typically for one year and for amounts up to $1500. Special awards are also available for new students of up to $5000/year (renewable for up to four years) and transfer students of up to $3000/year (renewable for two years), All prospective and current UK students considering a major in physics are encouraged to apply. Current physics majors are also eligible. Scholarships and awards are made primarily on the basis of merit (based largely on performance in science courses). Priority will be given to graduating high school seniors, first and second year physics majors, and other UK students considering majoring in physics. Financial need (as determined by the UK Office of Financial Aid) may also be considered to determine the award amount, with larger awards going to students having greater need. Scholarship recipients are required to register as a Physics Major before the start date of the award, enroll in at least 3 credit hours of physics courses per semester, maintain an overall GPA of at least 3.3, and maintain good progress toward a degree in physics. The brief application form is available as a PDF document. Please submit the completed, printed form by mail to: Scholarships Committee or by fax to: 859-323-2846 The deadline for receipt of completed applications is March 23, 2009. Please direct any questions about the scholarship program to gorringe@pa.uky.edu.
