PHY 232: Electricity, magnetism and light.
SPRING 2008
Old announcements:

Note on HW 10: The answers for Problems 1 and 4 are comprised of
functions with various dimensionful coefficients.
WebAssign, however, does not
want you to use the proper units in recording your answers. The trick
is to evaluate quantities in the fundamental SI units and, then, record
the numbers without their proper dimensions. (If this makes no sense,
please send me an email for
further clarification.)

We will have a Q&A format review session for Test 3 on Thursday, 10 April, at 6 pm in CP 139. Come with
questions.
-
The equation sheet and sample problem list for Test 3 has been
posted on the Lecture notes page. If you find
any errors on the equation sheet please send me an email ASAP. Thanks! [Posted: 7 Apr]

Our third in-class test will be on Monday, 14 April. I will post a list of relevant review problems soon. [Posted: 3 Apr]
-
In problem 9 of HW7, the question asks you to find the force on the ring; however, the prompt where you enter
your answer actually tells you to enter B (magnetic field). This is a typo in the problem; please enter the
magnitude of the force in the blank.

Welcome back! There will be a homework assignment due this Friday, 21 March. [Posted: 16 Mar]
-
There is no homework due this Friday, 7 March. You will receive and discuss your graded tests in recitation this week. [Posted: 4 Mar]
- A list of sample problems for Test 2 has been posted on the Lecture notes page. [Posted: 27 Feb]
- The equation sheet for Test 2 has been posted on the Lecture notes page; please let me know if you find any errors. [Posted: 26 Feb]
- As a reminder, our second test on the material we are covering in Chs. 26--28 will be on Monday, 3 March. [Posted: 26 Feb]
- Assignment HW6 is due by 5 pm on Saturday, 1 March. We will cover RC circuits during Friday's lecture, so you might need an extra day to finish those problems.

- There is no homework assignment due this Friday, 15 Feb. [Posted:
12 Feb]

We will have a review session on Thursday in CP 155 beginning at 6:00
pm. I will not prepare any formal lecture/review; this session
is intended to allow you to ask questions (hopefully about
physics).
- The equation sheet and some review problems for Test1 have been posted
on the
Lecture notes
page. Please email me if you find any errors on the equation sheet. The
review problems consist of relevant book examples and homework problems.
They are representative of the types of questions that you will see in the
free response portion of the test. In general, the problems that we discussed
in the lecture are test-type material. [Posted: 5 Feb]
- On HW4, please note that Problem 4.), Letter l.) carries no credit
(as it requires a paper submission). Please sketch the graph for your
own personal edification, but do not hand it in. [Posted: 4 Feb]
- Please email me if you are still not signed up for WebAssign. [Posted: 18 Jan 08]
- The second homework set has been posted; it is due Friday, 25 Jan. [Posted: 18 Jan 08]
- The 9 am recitation (sections 002 and 003) has been moved to CP 397. [Posted: 18 Jan 08]
- The first homework set has been posted; it is due Friday, 18 Jan. [Posted: 11 Jan 08]
- Welcome! Recitations will meet this Thursday, 10 Jan, though
there will be no quiz this week. [Posted: 7 Jan 08]
