Rise and Decline of New Physics in Muon g-2

New experimental data on muon g-2 obtained in the beginning of 2001 seemed to indicate that 2.6 sigma discrepancy between the predictions of the Standard Model and experiment is discovered. This raised high hopes that new physics beyond the Standard Model is at last discovered. I will discuss theory and experiment which led to this conclusion, and explain why recent dramatic theoretical development made these initial hopes to look exaggerated. I will also discuss why we still expect new physics to be discovered soon.
