Thus, the measurement of the
branching ratio and its
energy angle dependence, can
provide a deeper understanding of the pion nucleon
interactions from several important perspectives.
There has been considerable interest in this elementary reaction
for quite some time, even though the branching ratio
and the energy-angle distributions had not yet been measured.
Therefore our measurement of double radiative capture mode of
pionic hydrogen has been timely and of topical interest.
In the following chapters, we describe the set-up of our experiment and the trigger and acceptance studies leading to the final measurement.
