How color affects how materials absorb heat

1. Choose two tiles, of different colors. Check that they are nearly the same temperature, using the lower temperature thermal sensing sheet.

Place the two tiles back to back, colored sides out, and hold them tightly together enclosed by both your hands. Hold for 30 seconds. Then measure their temperature again, and record your observations.

2. Again choose two tiles, of different colors, and check that they are nearly the same temperature.

Put both tiles in direct sunlight for 60 seconds.

Bring back to the shade and immediately place the higher temperature range liquid crystal sensor on both tiles.

Observe the temperature indicated by the colors for both tiles and record your observations.

Compare and contrast the results you got for the two methods of heating the tiles. What conclusions can you draw?
