We have made some simple circuits already. However, everyday
applications already lead to more complicated circuits.
We can understand these just by envisioning where the current is
flowing and where the energy inputs are.
Here are some things to think about and do as we start the
section on
circuits.
Make a sketch showing how the pipes in a house are arranged,
so that we can be using water two places at once -- Dad is washing the
dog while Mom is filling the fish tank.
Make a sketch showing how the wires in a house are arranged, so that
we can turn on the porch light or the radio or both at once.
(Of course, you could build an actual circuit demonstrating your solution
to this one -- replacing the radio by a buzzer!).
Record in
your journal about what you learned, and any questions or problems you
encountered.
