Here are some things to do to finish this section.
What question did you think of that could be studied, or
observation could you make that is interesting or unexpected?
Send it to the Question board!
Discuss these questions with the people in your group. Please
send us a discussion of two of these
questions. Don't forget to tell us the group name.
Make a map of the field for one of the round magnets from the
kit, lying on one circular face. Explain what you see.
There are many ways to put two bar magnets into a package that
is 4 cm x 5 cm. Suppose someone gave you one of these packages --
how could you use a magnetic field map to find out which one it
was? Make one of the packages to test. Cut pieces of
heavy corrugated cardboard to make the gray parts, tape the parts
together, and then wrap prettily with opaque paper.
For dessert, use the compass and the magnetic field viewing card to see
if there are magnets in the motor, the buzzer, or the light-emitting diode.
Have one member of the group hide several paper clips under a
magazine. Then have other members of the group find them. How can
you tell which way the paper clips are pointing? (Note: this will
not work on a steel desk top!).
If there is something that you don't understand about the magnetic
field, Ask us!
This is the end of this section. (Check this
