Materials

1. Practice measuring how long it takes for something to fall from eye level to the floor. You will often get different results for each trial, even if you are careful. What are the factors that affect how good your measurements are?

2. Try different methods until you find one that gives consistent results.

3. Using your best method, time the falling object several times, recording your data in a table.

4. What are the mean, median, and range of your data? (The range is the difference between the largest and smallest values).

5. Use the range of your data to tell you about how accurately you can time things in this way. How many decimal places are reasonable to use in this measurement?

6. From your data, determine one number that best represents the falling time for your object. What is that number and why did you choose it?
