This is the beginning of the third module. The first two modules studied electrical devices and electrical circuits (here is a summary). We will find out later that electricity and magnetism are related. But we have to study magnetism itself, first.
Magnetic field Magnets can affect one another without there being any visible connection between them. In what follows, we will develop the idea that a magnet creates something in the space around it (called the magnetic field), which causes other magnets to turn and move.
