Welcome to our virtual workshop on light.
We present here a Virtual Workshop on light, which will show you a
set of activities you can use in your classroom, and teach you a
bit about this important (and pretty) subject. There is a small
kit of materials that is supposed to accompany these pages for the
purposes of doing the activities; and there is a rather larger kit
intended for when you use these materials in your classroom. We
estimate this workshop can keep you amused and busy for at least 30
hours.
To participate, you will need several things.
-
A small group of friends to work with. Of course, you can do everything
yourself, but it will be more fun and educational with a partner or two.
-
Your computer needs to be correctly configured to make everything work.
To verify that things are working correctly, please visit this
page.
-
The materials kit that goes with this workshop. A lot of what we are going
to do will use various science tools found in the kit. For a kit description,
visit this page.
-
Printed teacher manual that comes with the materials kit. This has
a lot of information and activities that go beyond what we cover in these
pages. Read it as you go through the workshop.
-
A browser program (Netscape or Internet Explorer). If you are using the
CDROM version of the workshop, it is not necessary to have an active
internet connection -- just tell the browser program that you will be working
off-line. However, to communicate with us by e-mail you do need to
connect to the internet. You'll also need internet access to look
at some web pages at the University of Kentucky that we will send you to
from time to time. To check that this is working, please visit this
page.
-
We recommend that you begin by calling Joe at (859) 257-3197 and/or Sally
at (859) 257-5131 to say "Hello." We'll be talking by email, but it's nice
to have a voice to go with it. We'd also like to know when you are
planning to do your workshop sessions, so we can be looking for your e-mails.
