As you may know, the npdgamma experiment that has been taking date on Beamline 13 is scheduled to complete running in winter/spring running cycle. Our plans are to dismount the target and detector during the summer shutdown and to install a new experiment, the “n3He” thereafter. While the complexity of the “n3He” installation will be significantly less that that of the existing experiment, it is nonetheless a new project. While we do not anticipate any unusual radiological, safety or operational issues, the “n3He” will be a new instrument and thus will require formal SNS approval.

Before we initiate the major, and nearly irreversible, step of removing the npdgamma cryostat, we want to be confident that the “n3He” project will in fact be ready for installation in the summer of 2014. Therefore, it is our intention to have an internal “readiness review” to assess the status of the project.

We would be grateful if you could participate as a member of this review. We would like to hold the review on either 9 or 10 January, 2014. I anticipate that the it will take no more than 3-4 hours including executive sessions and close-out. I do hope that you will be able to help us out.
