The study of lattice QCD, and especially the drive to extract physical hadron properties from data at relatively large pion mass, has led to some remarkable insights into how QCD seems to work. I shall review a number of examples, from the mass of the rho meson to the strange form factors of the nucleon, which have led to the broader conclusions.
